Whitefish Mountain
In operation for more than 70 years, this popular ski and snowboarding resort in Flathead National Forest, just west of Glacier National Park, offers 3,000 acres of ski-able terrain and averages more than 300 inches of snow each year. In the summer months, Whitefish becomes home to thrilling zip line tours, Montana’s only alpine slide, an aerial adventure park, and cross-country mountain biking.
Glacier National Park
Open year-round, nearby Glacier National Park spans more than 1,500 square miles and features 734 miles of hiking trails, 762 lakes for fishing and boating, 175 mountains and 26 glaciers.
Kootenai national forest
Located in the far northwest corner of Montana, The Kootenai National Forest’s rugged natural beauty encompassed over 2.2 million acres, an area nearly three times the size of Rhode Island, and offers a wealth of outdoor recreational pursuits. There are approximately 315 trails, from easy to moderate day hikes to more advanced backpacking excursions. Other popular activities include road cycling, off-road biking, white water rafting, camping, boating, swimming and fishing, just to name a few.
LAKE KOOCANUSA
Adjacent to the Kootenai National Forest is the Lake Koocanusa reservoir. Stretching 90 miles, Koocanusa offers endless recreational opportunities, including boating and fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Other popular activities are kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, hiking and biking. In the summer months, the warm, turquoise water is a swimmers paradise. This scenic wilderness provides a rich habitat for a wide range of wildlife species, such as bald eagles, elk, and deer.
